The UGC, in 2006, launched an ambitious initiative to establish Model Degree Colleges in 374 Educationally Backward Districts (EBDs) across India. In collaboration with the Punjab Government, Panjab University set up Baba Balraj Panjab University Constituent College at Balachaur (S.B.S. Nagar), Punjab.
The plan to establish these colleges was announced by Hon’ble Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on August 15, 2007, with the aim of providing greater access to quality education for students in EBDs, thereby fostering equity and inclusiveness in society.
