Educational & Other Qualification:-
Professor,Associate Professor & Assistant Professor:-
- A recognized medical qualification included in the First or Second Schedule or Part II of the Third Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. (Holders of educational qualifications included in Part II of the Third Schedule should also fulfill the conditions stipulated in Section 13 (3) of the said Act); and
- a post graduate qualification e.g. MD (Doctor of Medicine) or MS (Master of Surgery) or a recognized qualification equivalent thereto in the respective subject/al’ied discipline.
- For Dentistry: A Post Graduate qualification viz. Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) or a recognized qualification equivalent thereto in the respective subject/allied discipline.
Essential for Non — Medical Candidates
A Postgraduate qualification i.e. Master’s Degree in the concerned subject or allied discipline and (ii) A Doctorate degree from a recognized University in the respective subject or allied discipline.
Experience for Assistant Professor:-
(a) For the candidates processing Doctor of Medicine (MD)/ Masters of Surgery (MS) from Medical Council of India recognized medical colleges; Three years teaching experience in the subject as Resident or Registrar or Demonstrator or Tutor in a recognized medical college either during — graduate course or after obtaining the post postgraduate degree in the subject.
(b) For the candidates possessing Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification from Medical Council of India recognized medical colleges or central institutes where the number of doctor of medicine (MD) or Master of Surgery (MS) course running;
(i) Three years teaching experience in the subject in a recognized medical college either during the Diplomat of National Board (DNB) course or after possessing the diplomat of national board (DNB) qualification.
(ii) The concerned candidate would also require one year experience of additional teaching or research experience in the concerned subject in a recognized medical college after obtaining the Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification.
(c) For candidates possessing Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification from Medical Council of India (MCI) recognized medical colleges or central institutes where there are Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Masters of Surgery (MS) courses running; Three years teaching experience in the subject in a recognized medical college either during the Diplomat of National Board (DNB) course or after obtaining Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification.
(d) For the candidates possessing Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification from centers other than of Medical Council of India (MCI) recognized medical colleges or central institutes:
(i) Three years teaching experience in the subject either during the Diplomat of National Board (DNB) course or after possessing Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification.
(ii) The concerned candidate would require two years additional teaching experience as Sr. Resident or Research Associate (CSIR) in a Medical Council of India (MCI) recognized medical college or central institute.
(iii) Qualification for the post of Assistant Professor Statistician (Community Medicine) is (Qualification: MSC. Statics or MSC. Bio Statics.)
(e) “Research Experience”: (i) For the candidates obtaining Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification from centers other than Medical Council of India (MCI) recognized medical colleges or central institutes, the concerned candidate should have minimum two publications (accepted or published) in the index journal (National/lnternational as first or second author). (ii) In case the concerned candidate does not) have the required publication, he must have a total of three years teaching experience in a recognized college or central institute after possessing Diplomat of National Board (DNB) qualification.
Experience for Associate Professor:-
(a) Five years teaching experience as Lecturer or Assistant Professor in a recognized medical college in the concerned specialty. Note: The transitory period of 4 years w.e.f. 24th July, 2009, the appointment or promotion to the post of Associate Professor can be made by the institutes in accordance with the Medical Council of India — “Minimum Qualifications for Teachers in 1998” Institutions Regulations, Medical as prevailing before notification of Medical Council of India – “Minimum Qualifications for Teachers in Medical Institutions (Amendment) Regulations, 2009.”
(b) Four years teaching experience as Assistant Professor in the concerned specialty in a recognized medical college with minimum of two research publications in indexed or national journals provided that these research publications are published or accepted for publications in the Journals by the National Associations or Societies of the respective specialties as the First Author, and further provided that the requirement of two research publications for promotion to the post of Associate Professor should be taken on cumulative basis with minimum of 2 research publications must be published during the tenure of the Assistant Professor.
Experience for Professor:-
(a) Four years teaching experience as Reader or Associate Professor in a recognized medical college in the concerned speciality. Note : The transitory period of 4 years w.e.f. 24th July, 2009, the appointment or promotion to the post of Professor can be made by the institutes in accordance with the Medical Council of India — “Minimum Qualifications for Teachers in Medical Institutions Regulations, 1998” as prevailing before notification of Medical Council of India – “Minimum Qualifications for Teachers in Medical Institutions (Amendment) Regulations, 2009.”
(b) Three years teaching experience as Associate Professor in the concerned specialty in a recognized medical college with minimum of four research publications in indexed or national journals provided that these research publications are published or accepted for publications in the Journals by the National Associations or Societies of the respective specialties as the First Author, and further provided that the requirement of a research publications for promotion to the post of Professor should be taken on cumulative basis with minimum of 2 research publications must be published during the tenure of the Associate Professor.
