Punjabi University, Patiala was established under the Punjab Act No. 35 of 1961 by the Punjab Assembly. The foundation stone was laid by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India, on June 24, 1962. The University was created with the vision of promoting Punjabi language, art, and literature, and to contribute towards nation-building through higher education.
