NIT Jamshedpur, established in 1960 as a Regional Institute of Technology and upgraded to NIT in 2002, is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. It is among the 30 NITs in India and was the third of eight NITs established during the Second Five Year Plan (1956–61).

Eligibility:

  • Qualification: Ph.D. in the relevant or equivalent discipline.

  • Academic Record: First Class in preceding degrees (B.Tech./B.E. onwards). If not specified, minimum 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale or 60% aggregate.

  • Foreign Degrees: Candidates with degrees from abroad considered if awarded by a recognized university/institution or QS/THE World Ranked institutions (top 500, last 2 years).

  • Direct Ph.D.: Candidates who have done Ph.D. directly after B.Tech./B.E. are eligible if First Class at Bachelor’s level is fulfilled.

  • Other Requirements: As per Schedule ‘E’ of NIT Statutes (Gazette of India No. 651, dated 24th July 2017). Link
