Organization Profile

After India’s independence, rural development became a national priority. In 1949, the Radhakrishnan University Education Commission recommended the establishment of rural universities dedicated to agricultural education. Later, in 1954, an Indo–American team led by Dr. K. R. Damle (Vice-President, ICAR) proposed creating a rural university on the land-grant model of the USA, which led to the founding of G. B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, India’s first agricultural university.
